WISH UPON A STAR — VENUS IN CANCER — JUNE 2 — June 27, 2013

Good Morning, dear Friends and Readers,  all you Cancers should find yourselves  in the catbird seat at the moment, the sweet spot with Venus now moving through Cancer.  Other water signs should feel like their life is flowing pretty well, too, since we have Grand Water Trine transits setting up with inner planets in Cancer, Saturn in Scorpio, and Neptune moving very slowly through Pisces.

Venus in Cancer symbolizes unconditional love and nurturing.  Cancer people are very protective of home and family.  Cancer represents the home but especially the kitchen and cooking and socializing  around food.  It’s a great month for potlucks and celebrating various occasions with a nice meal together.  Lots of Cancer women are good at catering, decorating cakes, publishing cookbooks, etc.

Venus in a man’s chart symbolizes women, love, and attraction.  When Venus in in Cancer, the women theme still applies, but can include female relatives, too — the mother, sisters, in-laws, daughters…so there may be a lot of interaction with them this month.  Venus in a woman’s chart symbolizes socializing with women, but also shopping for items for family and the home, particularly the kitchen.  For example, if you wanted to buy a juicer, this would be the time to do it, but before the 26th when Mercury goes retro.  Painting and remodeling the home are also favored at this time.  This is a great month for weddings, family reunions, showers, graduations, celebrations of all kinds…

I’ve covered a lot of the conjunctions in earlier posts, so let’s see what else Venus is doing this month.  I like to allow a day on either side of an exact Venus transit for orb.

On June 7th, the  day before the New Moon, Venus trines both Neptune and Saturn.  Grand trines mean  people can be self-sufficient and don’t need other people to jump-start them.  So this  period is a  time when water signs especially can really be in the flow with their life’s events.  What this means is you can feel very stable and grounded, lucky, too.  There’s some challenging transits leading up to the Full Moon but most people should be able to sail right around any difficulties.  An old phrase comes to mind…”you can keep your head straight when all about you are losing theirs”…  This is a good time to teach children to swim or start swimming lessons, to enjoy water activities  in a sheltered environment, not the open sea (Mars square Neptune).  Great for  groundbreaking for a pool in your yard, or a fountain, or even installing a new sink or shower or bath.

I like June 10th,  when the Moon in Cancer conjoins Venus.  Wonderful for a party, a celebration, for shopping,  for hanging out with women.  I will be cleaning my home getting ready for a family reunion.  Probably go to the grocery store that day, too, since the items I will need are likely to be on sale :))…

The 11th and 12th look a bit challenging as Venus opposes Pluto and then squares Uranus.  These transit form a T-Square which pushes a lot of energy out the empty spot — Libra.  This means people want their own way and are not in a mood to compromise.  Do your best to remain calm and diplomatic.  If it was me, I wouldn’t be signing any kinds of important paperwork or legal agreements or contracts on these days.  Mostly, though, I think you’ll find that people either aren’t in a mood to commit to social plans, or they keep changing their minds at the last minute.  Frustrating, but not a problem if you just stay flexible.  Using my own life as an example, the 12th is my family’s arrival date and I figure just have food cooked and whenever they show up is fine.  I fully expect them to show up late and hungry.  That’s one of the keys with Cancer, and ESPECIALLY with people with Cancer planets in their natal.  They need to snack frequently and they don’t like to get too far away from food and drink.  When my family leaves, I will be sending a care package with them.  Good thing I understand astrology :))  And now you do, too :))…

The 14th is a good day for medical as Venus trines Chiron.  The 15th is a good day for gatherings of women or a party as Venus sextiles Moon in Virgo.  That’s actually a fabulous time to learn more about diet and nutrition, too.

On June 20th and 21st, Mercury conjoins Venus and the Sun enters Cancer.  A sweet time for a wedding or family reunion with lots of laughter, jokes and affectionate speech.  A wonderful time to visit parents and grandparents.  It’s an interesting thing about Cancer, that while it rules babies and the love and nurturing required to care for them, Cancer also symbolizes the later years, too.  Not death like Scorpio, but more the cherishing and reviewing the family legacy — memories, antiques, the family history and geneology, passing on the treasures of the family to the next generation.  This is a great transit to “interview” the elders in your family and catch the memories, the details, the family history on video or cd.   There’s a  reason that Cancer natives are usually the ones   to inherit the family antiques, and that is because they treasure them and take care of them properly.  Those of you who like  scrapbooking could find this is a  great time to put collections of photos together to pass on to the younger generations.

The Full Moon is the 23rd at 2 degrees Cap/Cancer.  I think these mellow transits should smooth out the prelude, but the day AFTER the Moon will oppose Venus, which can be disruptive.  This transit reminds me of brides-to-be fighting over wedding dresses at a big sale in a department store.  Mostly, though, people may not be able to agree on social plans, like which movie or which restaurant to go to, or even who to socialize WITH.   A few people, with helpful aspects in their natals, will be able to have a heart to heart talk and clear the air of any misunderstandings.

Looking at  the month overall, if you need to buy a new home or move to a new one, this is probably your best time to find a great fit.  Try to schedule showings on the 10th, and the 19th to the 21st.  If you’re buying, plan to close after July 20th for best results…

People who work in the restaurant or food business should do well, also people in retail businesses that supply home and kitchen items, appliances, and baby items.  Same with farmers and ranchers — a busy time and remember the weather will continue to be unsettled.  Jupiter in Cancer should increase harvests and productivity, but with the lurking squares between Uranus and Pluto and the stress they put on Jupiter in Cancer, all bets are off.  More on this and the US chart in another post to come…

Venus enters Leo on June 27th and since Mercury is retro, Leos will need to postpone any major shopping and/or beauty treatments.  So get your hair or nails done early :))

More soon, Blessings, Jenae

OTTER SPACE ASTROLOGY — MARS IN GEMINI — MAY 31  — July 13, 2013

Hello again, dear Friends and Readers, let’s begin by remembering that Mars symbolizes action, physical energy, sports, fights, accidents, leadership, initiative and new projects.  Mars in Gemini could imply some duality, so to use an old pun J) , it’s pretty important with this transit to let the right hand know what the left hand is doing.  Good communication (again Gemini) and following through on plans will be essential for the next 6 weeks.  We’re going to have to compensate for the Mercury retro from June 26th through July 20th, too.

Mars in Gemini  is great for people who are natural multi-taskers.  Gemini energy gets bored with routine and Mars also seeks new challenges, new mountains to conquer.  Playing with the energies, here are some possibilities :  This could be a good period to seek new ways of doing old tasks.  This combination of Mars and Mercury energy is great for innovation and experimenting.  Large projects can be broken down into smaller components for positive results.  Surgeons, dentists, watch makers,  and people who need good manual dexterity should do well.

This could be a very active period for people working with printing, advertising, community relations, and public information campaigns.  On a more individual level, Gemini rules siblings, the neighborhood, local community activities, kindergarten through high school and technical education, magazines and newspapers, and communication in general.  Mars in Gemini would accent those areas. Transportation issues could be stressed by this transit — more on that later…

One potential problem that could happen in communication is that Mars adds impatience and excitement to Gemini.  Angry words?  Not listening patiently to people?  Getting enchanted with your own monologue instead of fostering  a true dialogue?  Seeking to get someone riled up and fighting mad just because you’re bored?  These would be things to be careful to avoid.

The actual transits look pretty OK, not A + but not horrible either.  I don’t like Mars square Neptune on June 7th and Mars inconjunct Saturn on the 8th which is the New Moon at 18 degrees Gemini.  I think people who work on the water need to be very careful.  Same thing with chemists and  people handling chemicals and oils.  When I had young children, I was an anxious, over-protective parent.  I had girls, so it was more culturally acceptable than if I’d had boys.  No skiing when Saturn was in Sag, etc. etc. Looking back, I don’t regret it.  As an astrologer, I wouldn’t  go, and/or let children go on boat trips or swim in the sea with these kinds of transits.  Swim lessons at the YMCA would be OK.  Check out the lifeguard, though, make sure his/her attention is focused where it should be — on the kids. Keep an eye on your basement, too, (Scorpio), in case there’s heavy rain.  The weather patterns are unsettled and unfortunately, this will continue.

Back-tracking just a bit, on the 6th, Mars is semi-sextile Venus, which is helpful for the arts and for romance.  Mars in Gemini is playful, they like little jokes and puns and also using old words in new ways.  Geminis often double their words  (“hello, hello”) and they’re especially fond of alliteration.  One time I was at dinner with a bunch of people and they were talking about some ex-hippies who lived on a farm and one Gemini  guy said, “Oh, you mean the Patchouli People…” and we all burst out laughing because it was the perfect description…

You should also allow some orb for Mars transits.  I usually 3 days on either side, making for about a week, but you also have to check out the energy.  Some Mars transits are more intense than others.

For example, exact on June 15th, the Moon in Virgo squares Mars AND Mars inconjuncts Pluto.  These transits are more minor so you could allow less orb.  However, with the Moon in Virgo and Pluto in Capricorn, AND the inconjuncts tend  to come out in the workplace anyway — OK, you guys, do you see where this is heading?  We have the Moon in the sign of employment and Pluto in the sign of career.  It may be minor but it could certainly be glitchy at work for a few days and the reverberations could come back to haunt you if you indulge in gossip, rumor, and innuendo.  Probably someone at work is in a big frumpy mood.  Just stay cool, try to be nice, and stay out of their way…

Exact on June 17th, Mars sextiles Uranus and trine the Moon.  This should be quite good for sports, outdoor adventures, trying new activities.  You also get your adrenalin going by watching a scary movie, if that is your preference.  Occupational therapists could be quite inventive with this transit, figuring out new ways to help people cope with daily life. People who work in emergencies will really be in tune with themselves and the other team members (hospitals, dispatch, military, law enforcement, etc.)  Courage and heroism will be in the news around this time.

Exact on June 22nd, Moon in Sag opposes Mars in Gemini.  These two signs rule travel.  We’ve already seen when Mercury went through Gemini, all it took was a difficult transit and there were accidents — bridges, railroads, all kinds of stuff, not even counting all the tornados and storms.  It’s been really  terrible.  There’s a lot of voltage when Moon and Mars combine, no matter what the aspect or angle.  So I would venture a guess that there will be more storms close to this date and people need to be careful as the Full Moon is the very next day !!!  The day before, the day of, and the day after — the times to be very careful with Full Moons because you can never tell when it will hit.  I’ve been doing research along those lines and this one looks like it’s the day before.  Just be careful and protect yourself and your loved ones.  Not the time to go hang out at the mall, or make frivolous trips just because you’re bored.  Try having a house party instead, a potluck with sleeping bags :))  Sag rules adult beverages; people who party shouldn’t drive…

Exact on June 28th, Mars is inconjunct Saturn, Moon  is inconjunct Saturn and Mars is square the Moon.  This has a similar flavor to the 15th except with the Moon in Pisces and the culmination late on a Friday night, it’s not likely to be a problem at work so much as a problem at a pub or tavern or with some kind of social plans.  Like someone is putting pressure on you to do a certain thing, or go to a certain place, and you don’t really want to.  In a case like that, it might be better to just say no, or suggest other plans.  If you are a caregiver, this would be a time when you could really use a day off or some respite care.  When people aren’t feeling well, they get pretty whiney/fussy and there’s really no pleasing them.  You can be empathetic and still know your boundaries.

On July 1st, Mars is semi-sextile Mercury — mild but helpful and very good for a private conversation that stays private.  This transit is also helpful for tasks requiring good manual dexterity.  If you’re a writer, this could be great for mysteries, puzzles, identifying with your characters and getting inspiration on where the plot is heading, almost like they ARE talking to you !!  Don’t get freaked out; it’s just your guides helping you :))

Exact on July 6th, Moon is conjunct Mars in late Gemini.  There’s a lot of voltage in this conjunction…when I see this in a private client’s chart in their 4th house,  I usually warn them to slow down and avoid home accidents.  The vulnerable areas would be hands, arms, and shoulders.  In general, watch the driving and the transportation issues.  If you KNOW your  car needs repairs, you should get it done BEFORE Mercury goes retro 6-26.  On the other hand, if you’ve had your car in the shop and they haven’t solved the problem, you can try taking it in on the retrograde since it would be fixing and correcting something from the past.  Just put your concerns in writing and keep a copy, too, so there’s no misunderstandings.  I had that happen once…

In general, Moon on Mars means your emotions and your actions are aligned.  You can get a lot done though other people might find you a little pushy.  It’s a great time to sort and file paperwork.  You might find stuff that you thought you lost :))…

Just as an example of how transits work, I had a client with transiting Mars conjoining her Moon-Mars in the natal, in her 4th.  I went through the usual stuff, and we spoke about safety, new batteries in the smoke alarms, safety drills with the kids, home repairs, etc.  Well, her house and family were fine but she happened to make a short trip with the kids and stayed in a hotel in a different city.  And in the middle of the night, the hotel alarms went off and there was a fire and everyone had to evacuate.  They were safe but not much sleep.  Mars can be disruptive at times.  A little drama to get the adrenalin going …:))

More soon, Blessings, Jenae

OTTERSPACE ASTROLOGY — MERCURY IN CANCER — MAY 31 – AUGUST 8, 2013

Hello dear Friends and Readers, yesterday was some more wild and damaging weather here in the USA.  Mercury at 29 degrees Gemini and then moving into Cancer.  You’ll remember from earlier posts that the 29th degree of anything is considered a critical degree.  Plus there’s the ever looming square between Uranus and Pluto, it’s still in a very tight square and these tornados seem to be never ending.  Be aware that there will be a lot of discussions about sustainable food and sustainable housing as Jupiter enters Cancer.  More on that in upcoming posts.  But for now, Mercury leads the planetary energy moving into Cancer.  Note that Mercury will go retrograde at  23 degrees Cancer on 6-26 and into direct motions again at 13 degrees Cancer on 7-20.  By now you all should know the routine…doublecheck all dates, times, meetings, paperwork,  etc. when Mercury is retro.  Not the easiest time for travel, however this particular retro would be very good for looking up old school friends and for family reunions, and for visiting the places of your childhood.  So if there’s someone you miss from your past, there’s a lot of tools available to help you find your loved ones — Red Cross adoption website, Facebook, etc.

The Mercury  transits this time mostly take place early in the cycle.  This time there are not the repeated transits — fwd, backward, fwd that you see so much.  Remember that I write about the transits in a general way as they occur,  but this is NOT the same as the transits to YOUR PERSONAL CHART.  For example, I wrote about Jupiter conjoining the Sun on May 27, but this doesn’t mean Jupiter conjoined YOUR SUN — unless you are a 22-23 degree Gemini.  I do hope you understand the difference.  EVERYONE should have a copy of their personal birth chart and seek to understand it thoroughly because it is a map.  For all of us, the journey is different but the destination is the same…

Mercury in Cancer is all about food, home and family, protecting the family, having  conversations in the kitchen, fixing up the house, and nurturing the young.  I had a Cancer friend once who came for a visit, and he put his bare hands in the soil around my vegetable plants and fluffed the soil and the next day the plants  grew an inch !!  Water signs are healers and Mercury in Cancer would also underline that theme of using the electricity in our hands.  Mercury in Cancer is a great transit to study healing, diet and nutrition, early child development and education, and DIY home repairs.  Since Mercury rules the local neighborhood and short trips, you could use this transit to visit a Home and Garden show and see the latest inventions, building techniques, kitchen improvements, etc.

OK, let’s take a look at some of the Mercury transits…Mercury trines Neptune and Saturn on June 3rd  & 4th. These are good days to be in the flow spiritually.  Excellent for healing, for medical, for meditation and/or spiritual practices.  I have the impression that some of you will be writing down memories — family history, geneology, memoirs, a tribute to someone who has passed….there is a good current of inspiration at this time.  Could be good for writing music and lyrics, too…

I have noticed that there are glitchy and challenging transits around the New Moon this month and again around the New Moon in July.  In my experience, the day BEFORE the New Moon acts almost like a Full Moon — wacky, unsettling, out of control people acting very emotional.  The day before the New Moon is June 7th and Mercury is opposed by Pluto.  Defintely not a time to get into an argument with someone who has to have the last word and be right all the time.  Additonally, Mars is square Neptune ( possible deception and hidden agendas)  and the 8th, the New Moon in Gemini, features Mercury square Uranus.  In view of the current weather events, this time frame could have a lot of wind, lightning, and rain, causing emergencies.  I hope you guys realize I want to be wrong about this — my preference is gentle weather and great crops.  I write what I see in the hope you will be sensible and make preparations for yourself and your loved ones.  Remembering that Gemini is ruled by Mercury, there will probably be more transportation problems, too.  To sum up, if you will be travelling, get there early and leave late, on June 10th when Mercury is conjunct the Moon in Cancer.  MUCH easier… Looking at this more on the psychological level, these challenges mean keep your ears open and mouth closed.  People around you will be excitable and not particularly cooperative because they’re distracted.  Just try to be helpful and postpone important discussion and/or decisions.  On a practical level, back up your computers to protect from possible power  outages.  I know some people who turn off the TV when they’re going to be gone, to protect from power surges…  Just to be clear, people who are having family reunions, gatherings, graduations, etc. — these can go well, but you’re going to have to stay sharp and observant. Your event can go well, but you may see a lot of news reports from other places that are experiencing  difficulties.  I’m a big believer in taking food with me when I leave home.  I always have a cooler in blue ice in my car.  Comes in very handy in emergencies…pack stuff that can be eaten without cooking it first…

Mercury conjoins Venus in Cancer on June 20th and 21st.  This should be quite pleasant — happy conversations with affectionate people.  Wonderful for shopping for food or kitchen equipment, planning menus, hosting a party or a potluck.  This conjunction may ease the Full Moon on the 23rd.  Really folks, I don’t see much problem this time with the Full Moon ( Sun 2 degrees Cancer/Moon 2 degrees Capricorn), it’s the period  around the next 2 NEW Moons that look difficult.  You’re going to see a lot of energy building over the next year around food, nutrition, new positive ways to feed the planet.  Jupiter in Cancer stuff…

New Moon in Cancer on July 8th with Mercury retrograde conjunct the Moon , too.  No problem there, other than seeking clear communication and practicing active listening techniques to work with the retrograde. This conjunction just means don’t have important conversations when people are hungry.  People can be illogical when they are hungry.  Food first, talk later.  People with Cancer energy need to have frequent snacks close by and they stay healthy by getting a lot of their nutrition through liquids — smoothies, soup, vegetable juices, stew, etc.  This is a good time to clear up left over chores and details that were postponed previously.   Mercury retro means it’s fine for research and planning, just not the right time to start NEW projects.  The problem with this New Moon comes the next day when Moon moves into Leo and squares Saturn in Scorpio while Mercury conjoins the Sun.  Remember, the Cancer energy is unconditional love and emotional security as well as a  stable home.  So children are featured even more strongly on the 9th.  Sometimes when people get divorced there are problems about raising the children.  Mercury retro means this is NOT the time to get into power struggles about how to raise the kids.  Even couples who live together in the home should watch what they say in front of the kids at this time.  Looking at it another way, a united front will actually let a manipulative child know that divide and conquer doesn’t work.  Most families are on tight budgets these days.  Your children may want to decorate their room and do some kind of art projects.  Saturn challenges YOUR creativity to come up with innovative but less expensive ways to help your children express themselves.

On July 11th, Mercury is semi-sextile Venus in Leo.  Mild but helpful.  This continues the theme of communication at home with families and children.  A lot would depend on which houses are taking the transits in YOUR chart.  For example, if it was your 4th and 5th houses, your kids might be happily composing their own  show to present on a pretend stage in the backyard.  But if it was your 8th and 9th houses, you might be budgeting for a family trip that included education along with the fun — historical parks, museums, week-long summer camps for kids that take place at a college, etc.

Mercury is again conjunct the Moon on August 5th, in forward motion. New Moon in Leo on the 6th, but this time without the challenging transits of the previous cycles.  Great for drama in the creative sense    — art, music, theatre, dancing — it’s party time :))  There’s still a lot of accent on family life, children, and encouraging children to play creatively.  Imagination is a gift.  I watched a little boy playing a superhero with an apron as a cape and a stick for a sword.  I made him a blue and red satin cape and spray-painted a stick with gold.  Really, folks, I think he preferred the imaginary costume that HE came up with, rather than my humble efforts… taught me a good lesson :))

In a general sense, Mercury on the Moon means giving voice to feelings.  It’s not just conversation; it could be writing songs, poetry, letters, journaling, or even writing a creative lesson plan if you happen to be a teacher.  Lots of possibilities…

Well, that’s it for now, next up is Mars in Gemini…Blessings, Jenae

WISH UPON A STAR — MERCURY IN GEMINI — MAY 15 — MAY 31, 2013

Hello, dear Friends and Readers, in mythology Mercury/Hermes was the winged messenger.  Well, Mercury in Gemini this year certainly has wings because this is a speedy transit !!  2 weeks with a whole lot of Gemini energy — busy, yes!  Intellectually stimulating with lots of people buzzing in and out, yes!  You’re likely to be bopping all over the neighborhood, lots of short car trips.  Just remember to drive carefully and not too fast — you don’t need a ticket.  Try really hard to leave a little space in your schedule.  This is easier said than done since this is  a busy time of year with lots of school activities, field days, graduations, etc.  Gemini rules kindergarten through high school, as well as technical classes.  Very possible to have more contact with young people at this time.  By the last 1/3 of May there will be FOUR planets transiting through Gemini.  Encourage young people; ask them about their plans, their goals, their hopes and dreams.

You can use this transit to think about education in your own life.  This doesn’t have to mean formal or  traditional education, just make a list of things and areas of knowledge that you’d like to know more about.  You could really luck out in the last part of May and answers to your inner questions may show up in very original ways :))  Metaphysically speaking, we are all each other’s teachers.  Keep your mind and your ears open and you could learn a lot.  People will surprise you…

Today, May 15th,  is Moon sextile Mercury, a reasonably good day for conversations with others and within yourself, too.  Emotions and mental processes blend well.

Around the 18th, there could be quite a bit of confusion as Mercury squares Neptune, plus the Moon in early Virgo also squares Mercury.  This sets up a T-square configuration by transit, which impels a lot of energy out the empty spot — Sag.  Mercury is also inconjunct Saturn and if that wasn’t enough the Sun and Moon are also square.  Feel like hiding?  Maybe you should.  At the very least, avoid heavy conversations that can be misconstrued.  Practice damage control if gossip, rumors, and innuendos are running rampant in your world.  You could also find that someone close to you is grumpy and critical and rather than fighting back, try playing private detective to find out what is really going on…most likely it has absolutely nothing to do with you, but the person has some major worries and is scared.  They are hurting and need a shoulder and a hug, but instead of asking upfront, they act all prickly.  What can we learn from this situation?  Vow to be a clear and present communicator…and TG you’re not in that person’s shoes…  I have noticed that a lot of people are unable to say they are grieving.  How many of us bottle it up inside, thinking we have to be strong?  REAL strength is the ability to be honest about our feelings.  It takes courage to share the deep stuff…all in all, not the easiest weekend…

A couple real nice highlights this month as Mercury conjoins Venus on May 24th, and conjoins Jupiter on the 27th.  Allowing for some orb, just figure the last part of May can be very special.  With so much energy in Gemini, people with planets in the other mutable signs should be a little cautious about packing too much into their schedule, but overall this a special and delightful time.  Even the Full Moon on the  25th seems to help us celebrate some good times.  Parties, gatherings, Birthdays, weddings, graduations, family reunions — all of these are very probable.  Lots of fun, laughter, jokes and affection and the spirits will be  flowing freely :))  YES,  I mean that BOTH ways :))  First of all, don’t think your loved ones that have passed on aren’t right there with you sharing the  celebrations  and the good times.  THEY ARE !!  Love is eternal.  In the physical world,  in the adult beverage department, PLEASE exercise some moderation and have safe drivers available as escorts.  These transits expand the party mode, perhaps too much.  We all need to be careful and protective of each other, especially young people who don’t know enough about the world and think they’re invincible.   Hide the car keys if necessary.  Arrange for guests to sleep over.

The  month ends with Mercury at 29 degrees Gemini semi-sextile Mars at 29 degrees Taurus.  Mild transit, critical degree.  The 29th is a finishing degree, like taking a final exam, because there’s nowhere to go but into 0 degrees of the next sign.  Think about all that you have learned this spring, what goals have come into sharper focus for you.  Assess how you’re doing with walking your talk.  To me, the Mercury means mental flexibility, while the Mars indicates stability and core values that don’t get compromised.  This transit can also be interpreted that we can avoid getting into a rut by being willing to grow and learn new things.

The last part of May is great for buying a book or getting some from the public library, and for taking a short class or even trading your skills with someone else’s in an exchange or barter.  Nourish your curiosity.  And have some fun, too :))  Blessings, Jenae

WISH UPON A STAR — VENUS IN GEMINI — MAY 9 — JUNE 2, 2013

Good Morning, dear Friends and Readers…I’ve been very, very busy…in my glory with all the energy in Taurus…planted a couple hundred  plants both  flowers and vegetables.  Now I’m up to the seeds and some of the pressure is off.  Time to write again…

Venus is now transiting through Gemini and this month offers some glitch transits as well as a couple of VERY pleasant ones.  Let’s start with an overview of Venus in Gemini, remembering that Jupiter expands the Gemini tendencies through June 27th.  This is a very social time, and busy.  Gemini rules education from kindergarten through high school, as well as  technical classes.  So students may be almost busier than they can handle; parents need to be supportive.  Not only are there term papers due and finals to take, but the end of the year field trips, outdoor days,  graduations, etc.  Gemini also rules the neighborhood.  You may  find you’re out in the car more than usual.  Great for short trips, even regional trips.  There are often neighborhood clean up days and group yard sales at this time.  And the wedding season is beginning, too.  Gemini rules the arms and hands and shoulders.  Those of you who are interested in calligraphy will find this an excellent time to practice the art — if you don’t have a business opportunity to use it, try bartering your skills.  People that paint signs will also find this a good month for work and for promotions and advertising.

Gemini rules siblings and cousins;  there may more get togethers and conversations than usual, and pleasant, too.  Lots of laughter, jokes, puns, and affectionate speech.  Probably a lot of family reunions and gatherings, too, more than usual.  Memorial Day, plus graduations, etc.  IF you need to get a Gemini a gift, try pretty  writing paper, interesting pens,  books of jokes, and/or word puzzles and games.

Transiting Venus conjoins the Moon is early Gemini on the 10th and 11th and this is nice for a party or lunch with the ladies.  New Moon at 19 degrees Taurus was on the 9th in PDT and was also an eclipse, which means the effects last around 6 months, so people should note if they have natal planets in the 19th degree and what aspects they have to the New Moon.  Remember that the New Moon means BOTH the Sun and Moon are in the  same degree, they are conjunct.

I like to allow an orb  of a day or two on either side of an exact transit.  Keeping that in mind, Venus is square Neptune on the 13th.  This one can be a toughie — it could symbolize grief and missing someone so deeply it hurts.  It can symbolize confusion or some kind of a mystery that is hard to clear up.  This would be a good time to visit someone who is ill or confined, to show  compassion, but it is not a great time for parties, shopping, trips, or practical matters.  Don’t lose things because you’re spacey and not paying attention.  IMO, it’s not a good day for medical either because there is a stronger possibility of negative reactions to new medicines.

Roughly the 15th to the 18th (Mercury enters  Gemini, it’s own sign, on the 15th), there are 2 inconjunct transits.  First Venus inconjunct Saturn and then Venus inconjunct Pluto.  You guys know from earlier posts that this particular transit often comes out in the workplace.  Remembering that Mercury moves fast and Neptune is in early Pisces, so they are  square — you MUST AVOID gossip, rumor and innuendo in the workplace or there will be repercussions.  Someone may try to place blame or try to make you responsible for something they should have taken care of — protect yourself by using emails rather than conversations and make every effort to promote clear and positive communication.  Another possibility is you are asked to do something extra on the job, maybe somewhat of an imposition.  IF you can do it with a good heart, down the road there may some benefits but not immediately.  Intuitively, I feel that this YOD formation via transit means some things may happen in the world that are so painful that major populations will be outraged.  (Come on, Jenae, aren’t things bad enough already?  Yeah, it makes me very sad what is happening out in the world.  Study the Hindu — the age of KALI — the earth as whole is in a very difficult long-term cycle.  Conversely,  though, there are miracles happening on a daily basis in the lives of individuals.  Remember that every great movement in history  first began as an idea in one person’s mind — as individuals, we need to plant seeds of goodness …)  I don’t know if it’s just me but so many things in the news seem to be about Saturn in Scorpio bringing to the surface the evils we need to clean up and fix — the enslavement and trafficking and abuse — people, women, children, animals, honeybees even, plants and the notorious actions of Monsanto.  Collectively, we have a huge task to accomplish…

OK, back to Venus…Venus and Mercury are conjunct on May 24th — VERY pleasant for socializing, writing, public speaking, publishing, all kind of advertising and promotions.  The Full Moon in Gemini is the next day — this period is great for parties, just don’t go overboard.  A little moderation will ensure a positive outcome.  Full Moon means the Moon is in Sag — too many adult beverages and a happy occasion could turn into a fight since the Moon opposes Venus on the 25th. IF you need to buy a car, the 24th could be the day you find the right one.

Be sure to write this one on your calendar — Venus conjoins Jupiter on May 28th, which is a Tuesday.  This is a very lucky transit.  You can interpret luck on the mundane level,  such as lotto, betting the horses, finding the perfect gifts or purchases, winning a prize of some kind, winning at sports or an election, or even as finding the parking space you need.  On the mental level, luck could mean a breakthrough in studies or research, passing tests or certifications easily, or even something like tracking down books or information you’d been looking for.  Particularly with Gemini, the intellect should be quick and sharp at the end of May.  Play to win at games that require a good memory for data, or word games — stuff like Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune.  Emotionally, this transit can bring sweet rapport and kindness.  This is a great transit for having lots of fun and maybe taking a short trip either with people you like a lot or to visit someone dear to you.  Remember that Jupiter expands and exaggerates — it IS a beneficial planet, but don’t drive too fast or book your schedule too tight.  Jupiter as the ruler of Sag would also suggest that you be moderate with eating and drinking.

Spiritually, Venus conjunct Jupiter suggests tolerance, generosity, and kindness.  Forgiveness empowers the forgiver.  IF you’ve had a disagreement with someone, and Gemini could be siblings, cousins, neighbors, or even a local club or group — this could be a good time to mend fences.  I happen to have Venus conjunct Jupiter in my natal and I notice people are especially kind to me when other planets conjoin that position.  I tend to seek and build rapport and consensus with others.  It’s just not my nature to teach through confrontation or aggression.  One of the things that built my core values early was I grew up in a miniature United Nations — my father employed people from all over the world.  Jupiter gives you a chance to know people from very different backgrounds.  One of the fun things for me was comparing notes and asking questions about what their lives were like before they came to the USA.  The Christmas party potlucks  were such a delight !!! We all expressed appreciation for the food and goodies from all over the world.  Watch and see how food creates rapport as Jupiter enters Cancer for a year — I’ll have more to say about food next month :))…

Moon in Aquarius trines Venus on May30th — continuing the theme of the week about bonding with people and celebrating together.

On June 1st and 2nd, Venus squares the Moon in Pisces, so Saturday night isn’t as much fun, but Sunday looks OK.  People may say dumb things without thinking, and sensitive people can get their feelings hurt.  Saying less might be better than saying more…  Women  could be going through some emotional changes at this time, too.  Try and sort your feelings out by yourself before saying anything you could regret later.

So there you have it, and I hope all of you get to have some good times…Blessings, Jenae

WISH UPON A STAR — MARS IN TAURUS — APRIL 20 — MAY 31, 2013

Good Morning, dear Friends and Readers,  I hope you are recovering from the events of the week.  Mars conjunct the Sun at 29 degrees Aries is never a walk in the park.  Just in the USA, we had fights, accidents, bombs, explosions, firefights — enough already!!!  There’s a reason they call Mars the Red planet.  Today let’s take a look at Mars in Taurus and some of the main transits Mars makes during this time frame.  Mars in Taurus can be more peaceful but when you look at the stubborn side of Taurus, the slow burn that can ignite into absolute, unthinking rage (think of the Bull blindly charging)  — all of us should remember what we learned this last  week and continue to be observant, vigilant, and cautious.  Full Moon in Scorpio/Taurus Sun this month is exact April 25, 2013.  For more on the Full Moons you can look at my FB page, Otter Space Astrology.  EVERY year, this particular Full Moon and its opposite in the Fall, Full Moon in Taurus/Scorpio Sun — these 2 seem to bring up domestic violence issues and crimes of passion.  Sometimes the trigger is arguments about money, since these 2 signs rule financial matters.  So take it easy for a few days and don’t push.  Go out and pull some weeds to let off steam, or shovel dirt.  I had a Scorpio friend years ago; he lived in the country.  He had Taurus rising, too.  After a rough day at work he’d go out and push dirt around with his bulldozer…made him feel better :)).   Of course, not all of us own bulldozers, but a shovel will do…

I like to allow about a week for major Mars transits, a few days before and after.  In general, Mars in Taurus is great for art — working with earth materials like dirt, clay, wood, rock.  Sculpture, adobe, pottery, landscaping, making or repairing furniture or musical instruments — all these are favored.  Geology is an earth science, so is farming, and Taurus rules trees so forestry comes into play at this time, too.  Wonderful for getting outside and either creating beauty or appreciating the beauties of nature.  A great time to work with young children and let them plant something easy, like radishes or beans.

Taurus rules auctions, yard sales, flea markets…you can use the Mars energy to make some extra money or find great purchases.  Just don’t get greedy.  Sometime Taurus can get TOO attached to their possessions and their emotions influence the price.  If your goal is to clear out stuff then make the prices attractive to others.  If you have collectors’ items, a yard sale is not the place to sell…find another venue like Ebay or an art auction.

On April 21, Mars is semi-square Jupiter.  Not the easiest day for travel, so work around that date.  It’s a minor transit, more annoying than dire.  Flexibility is not a Taurus quality, but that is what is needed this weekend.

On April 29th,the Moon  trines Mars from Capricorn.  That means that your emotions can flow well and in harmony with your physical energy.  A great day to get a lot done and feel satisfied with your accomplishments.

I want to advise caution when Mars opposes Saturn , exact on 4-30 and 5-1, depending on your time zone.  If you have a lot of planets in fixed signs, then be EXTRA cautious.  The urge to move forward (Mars) is at odds with the need to consolidate (Saturn).  This is a major transit and no doubt will manifest in world events.  The current mood of the stock market ( in the USA) feels unstable to me.  It’s also very manipulated.  Protect yourself from sudden drops.  Those of you who know your personal chart will have a better idea of where to be cautious since you will know which houses are involved.  I’ll use my own chart as an example.  For me it would be the 3rd and 9th houses.  So I will stay home, work in my garden, and avoid travel, and doublecheck anything related to communication or finances for accuracy.  Most likely I will use the energy for writing and studying, which would fit with the houses involved.   For those of you in a partnership based on absolute respect and good communication, whether business or personal, this is actually a good period for financial planning and discussions.  Oppositions CAN symbolize the gaining of awareness through partnerships.

By May 4th, there’s a more pleasant but minor transit as Mars semi-sextiles Uranus, which is a 30 degree aspect.  This one is pretty good for using your intuition and repairs — mechanical, electronic, fixing tools themselves.  You could be quite innovative today.

Continuing the above theme, Mars trines Pluto on May 5th.  Remember, you’re allowing some orb  so you’re not limited to this day only.  This is a “get results” transit.  Shrewd, practical, very focused.  Those of you in research, tracking people, finding missing objects, police work and forensics and investigations of all types should be having a great time — quite productive and satisfying.  Those of you at home could still find something that was missing, and it’s great  for cleaning out closets, etc.  For fun,  try a metal detector and/or go digging for rocks and gems.  To me, that’s great fun, but others would rather dig around in a thrift store and that’s good, too.  You’ll notice the underlying theme here — finding the hidden treasure — just apply it where it fits into YOUR life.

There is A LOT going on as we enter the 2nd week of May.  Mercury is conjunct Mars and sextile Chiron on the 7th and 8th and the New Moon is the 9th and 10th, depending on your time zone.  Additionally, on the 9th Moon in Taurus is conjunct Mars and Venus is at the 29th degree of Taurus.   I have noticed through the years that the day BEFORE a New Moon often feels like a Full Moon, with people and events being glitchy and out of control.  Mercury conjunct Mars can symbolize hot head people who shout rather than converse, so you may want to be at your most diplomatic this week.  A Mercury-Mars conjunction is good for coordinating your mind and your body — manual dexterity, sports, etc. so there could be some positives.  There’s less accident potential in Taurus than if it were in Aries.  The problem here would be with people who are fixed in their viewpoint, stubborn, resistant to change.  A “this is the way it’s always been done”  kind of mentality.  The energy of Mars in Taurus tends to be slow and steady.  The positive is that reliability; the negative is getting in a rut.  Taking all this into consideration, I would say that medical appoints look OK on the 7th and 8th.  A  surgeon or a dentist needs  good manual dexterity.  Taurus is also the sign the rules touch, so massage would be great.  By the 9th the energy changes and people want to be more self-indulgent.  DON’T eat the whole box of chocolates !! :))  And don’t blow your budget on shopping.  This New Moon is an eclipse at 19 degrees Taurus.  Eclipses affect us for about 6 months.  Be sure to check if you have any planets at 19 degrees and what aspect is being created in your chart by this transit.  Make a note of the events of these 2 days in your life and watch and see what happens  related to them in the months ahead.  The best way to play this New Moon is to be patient and kind with your loved ones.  The worst way would be selfishness.

Actually, I think these transits are very special if you’re an artist.  Great inspiration and Venus in the last degree might symbolize the culmination of a large project.  Musicians, too.

On May 19th, Mars is semi-sextile Jupiter.  Nice for a short trip.  You might even stay in your own town but be busy hitting all the hot spots.  A lot of socializing.

The 20th is big — Uranus squares Pluto AGAIN.  5 of these over several years and the influence is ever present.  I’m just giving you the day of the EXACT square.  Really, you have to figure on years for this one.  The Sun enters Gemini and the Moon trines Mars the same day.  Uranus – Pluto is large groups of people protesting against the corruption of the established order and wanting more freedom and more respect in their lives.  And also better economic opportunities.  A well-fed and prosperous people have no need for rebellion.  There’s just too many people hurting these days and they deserve a chance at a better life.  That makes them vulnerable to manipulation by people with a radical agenda.  You’d think these repressive governments would understand that and help people get jobs and education, but NO —-  they are dumb and selfish and they hurt their people instead of helping them.  This is the great tragedy of our times…that it doesn’t have to be this way.  Pray for peace…daily…

There’s another Full Moon building…on May 22nd, Mars is inconjunct the Moon in Libra early in the morning.  Probably means some grumpy people at work that want you to help them.  Don’t allow yourself to be guilt-tripped.  If you want to help sincerely, then do so.  On the 24th the Moon is opposite Mars and the Full Moon is exact on the 25th.  Gemini-Sag — lots of stuff going on with education and the end of the school year is in sight.  Lots of pressure on kids, and older students, too.  Remember to take your vitamins when you are studying for exams and finishing term papers J.    Parents — this is the time to feed your children well, no junk food, so they can concentrate better.  Small protein snacks are good — sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, nuts, cheese and crackers, celery and peanut butter, etc.   If you smell peppermint oil when you study and then take it with you when you take a test, the peppermint increases memory 20% — very helpful.

The potential problems with this Full Moon show up more the next day with transit and transportation problems.  Drive carefully, be polite, and be prepared for detours and/or delays.  Sun square Jupiter, Moon inconjunct Mars from Sag, and Mars semi-square Uranus.  This last one could symbolize mechanical breakdowns.  Really, folks, if you can avoid travel the 26th, then do so.  Smart people see this coming and will get their car in for servicing earlier in the month on a better day, like the 4th or the 5th.

There’s a lot going on as this Mars in Taurus transit draws to a close.  Mercury is semi-sextile Mars at the 29th degrees of Gemini  and Taurus, respectively.  Mars enters Gemini and Mercury enters Cancer the same day, the 31st. Adaptability is coming with the planets changing signs, but just before that there could be a major confrontation.  I’m not sure if this is out in the world or that we as individuals need to side-step angry people ( Mars at 29 Taurus) or con artist people (Mercury at 29 Gemini).  My advice here would be don’t commit to anything long term unless you have ALL the facts.  I feel like there’s hidden elements to stories we are told.  Probably a good day to be skeptical.  If you are mediator or a labor contract negotiator, this is going to be a tough day because neither side wants to compromise.  There may still be a lot of pressure on students.  If there are young people in your life, be gently encouraging and help them keep perspective.  One poor test result is not the end of the world.  There are so many people in history that did not do well in formal education but went on to accomplish great things in life.

Well, that’s it for now…Stay safe, Jenae

WISH UPON A STAR — VENUS IN TAURUS — APRIL 15 – May 9, 2013

Hello Dear Readers and Friends, Venus enters Taurus today, such an appropriate transit for gardening, landscaping, even sitting under a tree to enjoy the day.  Venus rules Taurus so there is a harmony here, a little easier to be in the flow and attract to yourself  the resources that you most need.  Let’s begin with a short list of Taurus qualities and activities symbolized by this sign.  Remember some of the earlier lessons, too…Venus rules the 2nd house in the natural wheel of the zodiac.

Taurus is art, beauty, sculpture, gardening, forestry and trees in general.  It is one of the music signs.  Taurus is banking, personal money, our earthly possessions, and  developing our talents.  People with a lot of energy in the 2nd house like hobbies and they often and up turning their hobbies into a 2nd (or 3rd) career.  Taurus loves wholesale connections, a good sale, and auctions, yards sales and flea markets.  This sign rules wooden things and upholstery is a possible talent.  They like to shop for the home and decorate their lives, verging on gaudy at times but there’s nothing wrong with gold-gilded cherubs, crystals hanging in the windows,  and gold or silver throw pillows, sequins, etc.   Dolly Parton is a Taurus.

Taurus likes a well-stocked pantry and they like comfort.  Venus in Taurus rules the throat and if the weather is still cold in your area, your neck needs to stay warm but you should use pure fabrics, not polyester — cotton, wool, silk — all these are better to avoid a chill.

So…putting all this together, for the next 3+ weeks, it will be a good time to pursue the above interests and activities.  Most of the transits are pleasant.  A couple are potentially glitchy.  We’ll start with those and get them out of the way…

Bear in mind that if Venus is squaring or opposing a lot of planets in your chart, it will take more effort to manifest your goals.  Taurus is a fixed sign.  They are patient and kind and slow to anger but if they do get mad, look out !!!  The charging Bull is dangerous.  The downside can be laziness and possessiveness, qualities that make healthy relationships a lot more difficult.

I like to allow a day or two on either side of an exact Venus transit.  On April 22nd, Venus opposes Saturn in Scorpio.  This could be a sad time, with people feeling a lonely or a lack of affection in their lives.  It could also be partners opposing each other regarding money, purchases, investments, etc.  I’ve been telling my private clients this year, since Saturn is in Scorpio, that it’s important to update their wills, trusts, medical and/or financial POA forms, advanced health-care directives, and guardianship papers for those with young children.  These are serious matters and some parents have chosen to have the physical and financial guardians be different people, another way of protecting their children.  Nobody likes to think about all these dire things, but advance planning can give us peace of mind.  In general, Venus opposite Saturn is not a time for shopping unless it’s something like office supplies.  However, the serious tone of this transit makes it a good period to deal with the Scorpio issues mentioned above.

Full Moon this month is on April 25th, with the Moon in Libra. There’s an emphasis on independence versus cooperation and partnerships could be stressed.  ANY important one on one relationship. The day after, the 26th, could be the after-ripples and Venus opposes the Moon (in Scorpio) and the Moon conjoins Saturn later in the day.  There could be difficulties with women.  NOT a good day to have  a party, even though it’s on a Friday.  It’s not a good shopping day, either, because you might wish later that night that you hadn’t made the purchase.  Those of you who are caring for an elderly person could find that stubbornness becomes a big issue.  Another version, it’s not a great day to go to lunch with your mother-in-law.  I think some of you will have a heart to heart, serious talk, with a woman you love who is having big problems.  Compassion and empathy.  Be there for her…

The rest of the major Venus transits are really quite pleasant.  On April 19th, Venus sextiles Neptune in Pisces.  Sextiles mean opportunity with a little effort required to make your dreams and goals come true.  This is a great transit for finding peace of mind through the beauty of nature.  There’s an old saying, “Seek beauty for therein lies Eternal Truth.” This transit combines earth and water.  Playing around with it, you can get a mud mask at a spa, visit a park by the sea or by a lake, build a meditation garden in your backyard, even listening to music or a movie that brings out thoughtfulness and insight — all of these could apply.  By now you should have read enough of these posts that YOU are getting the hang of how to interpret the combinations of energy that the planets symbolize.  One of the nicest things about this transit is friendship that is both practical and spiritual.  Treasure your friends…

On the 21st, Venus trines the Moon — great for social times, lunch with females, shopping, too.  With the Moon in Virgo, you can buy vitamins or health products, visit a plant nursery, buy clothes for work, even something like products to clean your home.  You’re likely to find some very good deals.  This is a great day for gardening, too.  Fertile Moon in the 2nd quarter means plant above ground plants with vines — like peas and beans,
cukes if you’re in a warmer climate.

On April 23rd, Venus is 30 degrees, semi-sextile to Uranus in Aries.  Helpful to try new techniques, new products, be innovative.  You can hear some good news, unexpectedly.  Also, intuition is subtle but it’s there, so pay attention.

Venus trines Pluto in Cap on the 24th.  This one is very good for all things financial and practical — shopping for practical items, investments, starting a savings account, too.  You could receive praise at work for a job well done, even a bonus or a raise.  Another way to use this transit is to invest in yourself — spend some time and/or  money on furthering your skills, talents, and hobbies.  Still another way to use this transit would be straightening out your office or paperwork at home, particularly if you can’t find some important papers, because Pluto will help you find them as you organize yourself.  This is also a good day to get repairs done on office equipment or tools that you need for work.

Venus trines the Moon in Capricorn on the 30th — great for shopping and finding bargains of all kinds, a business lunch, socializing with the elderly, decorating your workplace or office.  It’s also good for health appointments re: bones, joints, and teeth (Capricorn).   If you’re planning cosmetic dentistry, you need more than just this simple transit to choose the right day.  The planets MUST  line up with your personal chart.  Sure, if you’re a Taurus or a Capricorn and your Venus is compatable, then go ahead — but remember the beginning of this post — if you are Leo, Scorp, or Aquarius then beauty treatments  are not as favorable on this day.

The Moon in Pisces sextiles Venus on May 5th.  This is the time to focus on your dreams and your wish list.  There is a lot of spiritual support around you, both visible and invisible.  Great for church, counseling, meditation, support groups, etc.  A great time, too, to  visit someone who is ill or confined, bring the love to them.  Music could be very inspiring in your life.  TG most of it is free these days on the internet.  I think the most important thing to remember with this transit is that the heavenly realms are made of such beauty and love that the most inspiring sights and loving experiences  on earth are but a pale reflection.  Still, the veil parts just a bit when Venus and Neptune combine, allowing us  to bring that love and beauty down to earth, if only for a little while…to remind us what awaits us on the other side, and to sustain and encourage us on our path here.  No matter how difficult life may seem, we are not alone.  Our loved ones on the other side are cheering us on…it takes guts and courage to make our way in this world.  Earth is a tough school, no doubt.  Look at today…I looked up Boston and the Moon is 25 degrees Cap — the transiting Mars-Sun conjunction in Aries today was 25-26 degrees.  An exact square.  There’s a lot of slimebuckets in this world.  I HTG they catch them before they can hurt anyone else.  Sometimes when these tragic events happen, the greatest love, brotherhood, and heroism manifest as a result.  Victory in the face of evil…

Stay safe, dear Readers…Blessings, Jenae
