Good Morning Dear Readers and Friends…the thought occurred to me during this Mercury retrograde transit that I should go back over the past a bit, sharing all the things that I have seen happen when a person goes through their first Saturn return…

Saturn takes approximately 29 1/2 years to transit all the way around the wheel of the chart. The first Saturn return takes place at that time — it means that Saturn is transiting conjunct to the place it was when you were born.  Depending on your individual chart and the  various aspects to your Saturn, it can be difficult in the extreme, or  even  relatively mild, but it ALWAYS serious and a time of commitment. Often, an older person will show up in your life at that time to function as a mentor or a guide. The law says you are an adult when you are 18 or 21, but older people start giving you more respect at 30 when you’ve completed the first Saturn return. Depending on your chart, you may just have one conjunction, but since Saturn is a slow and heavy planet you need to allow at least  a few degrees of orb.  Let’s say, for example that you have Saturn at 15 degrees of Libra and TRANSITING Saturn conjoins and then during the retrograde phase it comes back to 18 degrees Libra before going back into direct motion. You’re still going to  feel the heaviness of that conjunction, the after ripples, even though it is 3 degrees from exact. More often, the person will experience 3 exact conjunctions — forward, retrograde, then forward again.

OK, you are thinking, but what does it MEAN?  Saturn symbolizes authority. This transit is deeply a review of all the input that authority figures have had in your life thus far — parents, teachers, church, government, etc. The first Saturn return is a time when YOU choose what to keep and what to let go of, in terms of values and deciding whether all that previous input works for you or not. It takes courage and hard work (internally) to become your own authority, but that is just part of the task. Saturn is  also a symbol for career and how you define success in the outer world. When we are kids, our parents tell us (hopefully) that we can be anything we want to be when we grow up. As we mature, enter college, etc. we begin to realize that we can’t do it all, so we begin to choose that which is most meaningful to us.  Saturn is about bringing  goals into physical manifestation and it works through restriction, concentration, focus, and the ability to delay instant gratification for long-term rewards. So the first Saturn return is very often a commitment to a career, or a change in career.  It’s about choosing which door to walk through, and once we choose, other doors close silently.

I’ve seen people get married, or divorced, when they were going through their Saturn return. I know two  ladies with strong Scorpio themes who were widowed on both their 1st AND 2nd Saturn returns. When a child is born on your Saturn return, there’s a strong tie with that child. A karmic tie. Saturn, Pluto, and Neptune can indicate karmic ties — best to look carefully at both parents’ and the childs’ chart to see clues of how to manage the possibilities for positive results.

Mine was a change in career. When I was 28, I got the best job of my life at that time. I have Saturn in Virgo, so it figures :)) Virgo is health work and service to others. I job-shared with a dear friend and we had a great boss who encouraged our creativity. We worked long hours but it built my confidence in myself. When you are born with Saturn in your 1st house it takes getting older to become confident and believe in yourself. We even beat out 38 other social service contractors vying for a grant from the City of Salem because we were the ONLY preventative program.  We managed several acres of community gardens scattered across a tri-county area of the Willamette Valley.  Bringing better health and a better diet to many people — a good description of Saturn in Virgo :))

Saturn is the ruler of Capricorn and symbolizes bones, joints, and teeth. I knew a woman who was a nurse and she was starting her 1st Saturn return and she didn’t like her job. But she wouldn’t do anything about it. Then she broke her leg! So she couldn’t work, and while she was healing she realized that she HAD to make a change in career.  There’s an old saying…”The wheels of the Gods grind slow but exceedingly fine…” Make no mistake — Saturn returns are serious business designed to help us grow and if we refuse the task and the challenges in front of us at that time, there are most assuredly penalties.

SO…now I want to hear from you, if you are  28-30 and experiencing  the pressure of making important long-term decisions. Send me your birth data and whether you are male or female. My goal is to encourage an open discussion of this important time in peoples’ lives. I will post it and write what I see, minus your name, to protect your privacy.

Thanks for reading and watch for my next blog post — Uranus enters Taurus on May 15, 2018… Namaste, Jenae

SATURN IN CAPRICORN — 12-20-2017 to 12-16-2020

TRANSITING SATURN CONJUNCT TRANSITING PLUTO — JANUARY 2020 – EXACT 1-12-2020

Happy Solstice, dear Friends and Readers, and Mercury goes forward this evening (12-22) — finally !! With Saturn at 29 degrees Sag and Mercury retro in Sag, I’m sure you’ve been aware of the number of transportation accidents. Hopefully, this will ease up now that Mercury is direct and just in time for the holidays. Still, please drive carefully…

Saturn rules Capricorn, so this long transit will be especially strong and important. First, let’s go over some of the qualities represented by Saturn. If Jupiter is expansion, then Saturn is contraction and restriction. The secret of success with Saturn is to narrow down your perspective, focus and concentrate on dotting every i and crossing every t.  Long hours, hard work, lots of self-discipline and the ability to delay immediate gratification for long-term rewards will enable most of us to accomplish big goals and bring what was just a dream or a fantasy into physical manifestation. Capricorn is an earth sign.

Here’s some little tidbits about Caps…they’re old when they’re young, and young when they’re old. There is often ill health or some kind of restriction of activities when they are young. They just get better and better as they mature. By about 35, they’re doing quite well and basically age slower than other people so by the time they are 50, they  look younger than others. It’s the sign that rules bones, joints, and teeth — all of us will need  to  pay attention and take care with these parts of the body over the next few years.  I expect big breakthroughs in medical with this — research that has been going on for years finally comes to fruition. Capricorn people often start a very successful career late in life.  Jimmy Buffett would be a good example. They don’t just sit around in a rocking chair — old age seems to energize them and they are out and about, doing, accomplishing, and in general the 2nd half of life is lighter, freer, happier.

There was an interesting article a few months ago about scientists figuring out why the Roman concrete in the Mediterranean harbors was still standing and why the modern concrete doesn’t last as long. Evidently the ancients used the same lime, sand, gravel, and rock, but they added volcanic ash and SEA water. And with good results !!! I think we will see Planning Commissions finally get smart about what building materials are needed and how to build to offset the damage from hurricanes, tornados, floods, etc. Building in harmony with the environment will be an expanding theme over the next few years, with breakthroughs in materials used, too. Capricorn, being an earth sign, suggest rock, wood, clay, brick, cement, concrete, etc.  My impression is that innovative scientists, chemists, builders, architects, etc. will take the traditional materials and add something else, tweak them a bit, or use the latest chemistry to increase longevity/durability, the strength, the energy efficiency, etc. Just like they have regular drywall, but also mold-resistant drywall, too. You may wonder why I don’t mention steel and glass? To me, these are more under the Mars rulership because high heat is required to produce them.

Sometimes I feel like a broken record, reminding people to live their lives as if they will be tomorrow’s front page headlines, and warning younger people to keep it clean on social media since whatever they post is there forever.  Have you not noticed that the skeletons are coming out of peoples’ closets right and left?  Pope Francis said that the more powerful someone is, the more humble they need to be. Capricorn is a symbol for authority figures and the power structures that rules our lives one way or another — government, church, schools, etc.  I suppose we could add Hollywood to the list, since they influence the culture so heavily.  If people in positions of power and authority think they are above the law and they can do whatever they want with no consequences, then those that are drunk on their own power are going to find out that Saturn in Cap means they will pay a heavy price for their actions.  As Saturn transits further into Capricorn and begins to approach transiting Pluto, this will become a main world theme.  I read the USA news but I suspect the same things are happening world wide. You think the headlines are bad now? “You ain’t seen nothin’ yet !!!”  The corruption that has been hidden for years will emerge.  All of us have done things we’re not proud of…and all of us need to be careful about being overly judgmental of those whose mistakes have ruined their lives and others.  The various authority figures that are in such trouble these days are just reaping their karma. Let’s define karma — for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.  The point, people, is to not get on the high horse and look down and those whose corruption has come to light, but let it be a reminder to OURSELVES to act correctly.  All of us are responsible for our own thoughts, words, and deeds. For example, I know bully women and abused men. Yes, this is not the usual pattern, but it does exist. Similarly, there are preachers who live in $20 million dollar mansions while exorting people to give to their church, but there are also preachers who live humbly and witness the Christ daily by living a clean and genuine life.  I personally know many good men who would never, ever, be cruel and abusive to women, children, and animals, etc.  Even with the current corruption in Congress, there are no doubt a few good men and women.

I have a client who has surrounded himself with many diverse therapists who specialize in different modalities. One is a channel medium. Suring a recent session, my client received the information that if we want gentler weather, then humanity must stop being so ferocious to each other. Makes perfect sense to me!  You, dear Readers, have far more power than you think. Use your power for generating positive momentum…the time is now!

In general, the earth signs are  going to have a really productive period in their lives. Uranus enters Taurus in 2018, too, with a retro back into Aries but then forward into Taurus for approximately 7 years.  These trines really help the earth signs accomplish their goals and projects, start new businesses and hobbies, finish their schooling and set up investments that can last a lifetime.  The water signs should do pretty well, too. Sextiles mean opportunities with some elbow grease required to make the best use of the transits’ energy.  You may have to kick yourself into gear, but the rewards for focus and discipline are well worth the effort.

The air and fire signs will have more challenges. Squares and inconjuncts. It will be important to cultivate a flexible viewpoint, to seek a deeper understanding of the situations and emotional dynamics in their lives, and accept that problems are how we learn and grow. For example, sometimes having a bad boss is the quickest way to learn how to be a good boss yourself. It will probably help to understand the laws and rules that govern your profession, your neighborhood, and your finances. For example, a Saturn square is NOT the time to fight with City Hall or your local Planning and Zoning Commission. If you plan to buy a property and Saturn is in your 4th, better check on all those rules BEFORE you buy, and only buy if you plan to be there a LONG time. Saturn symbolizes longevity. If you are dealing with building inspectors, again, follow all the rules — no shortcuts. Since Saturn rules old age, there are some interesting exceptions with property where seniors are concerned. I know someone who had an elderly parent and she got permission to put a 2nd home on her property, though temporary, for the life of her parent. Saturn transiting in the 4th can symbolize responsibility for elders.

Saturn transiting your 7th can mean you will need to take extra responsibility in your marriage or partnership. It’s interesting, though, Saturn in the 7th can often bond people closer together, too. I’ve seen it go either way — a break-up, a separation, a marriage, celebrating a milestone anniversary…

Saturn in the 10th can go either way — a difficult boss or problems on the job and a need to work extra hard, but also can bring the increased responsibilities that come with a promotion.

Saturn in your 1st — take good care of yourself, your health, adequate rest, etc. while you’re out there showing the world how capable and responsible you are. Saturn here can bring recognition and/or awards for your expertise — something you have studied and fine-tuned for years…

The Saturn -Pluto conjunction will be exact on January 12, 2020.  It is in effect the whole month of January, and really, allowing for orb, we could add a month or even two, on either side. Honestly, I don’t know what this transit means…an asteroid or a huge geophysical event? A very big polar vortex?  The voters so mad they kick out all the incumbents?  A war? A credit implosion?  I could see that last one, since the Cap energy in the US chart is in the 8th house of shared resources.  So…hope for the best while you plan for the worst.  For now, I intend to watch things unfold and see if I can get a clearer sense of this conjunction.  So far, it seems like all the power players will either hit rock bottom or slowly begin to transform and regenerate into something better. I do know one thing — no matter how positive an individual’s chart is, we all will be affected by such a powerful conjunction. It could be that a very serious crisis is necessary to overcome the weaknesses and limitations in our current society.  Jupiter will be in the earlier degrees of Capricorn. Maybe we will finally formulate the global agreements that are necessary to save the planet. Like no more plastic in the ocean, for example. Maybe it’s a new way of harnessing energy so there’s enough for everybody and no one has to fight over it….something like that could truly transform everyone’s lives.

I hope you read and study what other astrologers say about the Saturn-Pluto conjunction. I’m sure there will be a LOT written about this and the more points of view you read, the better. Yes, these are considered malefic planets but even this conjunction will have a positive potential expression. The pressure created around this conjunction can actually help bring thinking errors and negative attitudes to the surface so that people can release the beliefs and thought patterns that are holding them back from the fully integrated life that their hearts seek.  Forgiveness empowers the forgiver…Namaste, Jenae

SATURN IN SAGITTARIUS — PART SIX — April 27, 2015

Good morning dear Friends and Readers, I just re-read Part Five of this Saturn series and realized I certainly didn’t get back to you in February to finish this up.  My apologies.  Life just seems to be roaring along these days, it seems like a month is gone in the blink of an eye.  Anyway, here is the final post of this series…

If you have VIRGO RISING, then Saturn in Sag will be transiting through your 4th house of unconditional love, home and family, early childhood programming and heredity.  This house rules history and the ancestors.  Have you watched that TV show – “Who Do You Think You Are?”  about discovering your heredity?  Saturn in Sag here could be good for research in that area, like joining Ancestry.com, interviewing your relatives, etc.

A more traditional way of interpreting Saturn in the 4th is heavier responsibility for older relatives.  Keep an eye on them, their health and general nutritional needs, check the house for hazards, etc.  Remembering that Saturn retrogrades back into the last few degrees of Scorpio, from June 17 to September 19, 2015 — that will give you a better chance to confer with other siblings to make consensus decisions if necessary.  The well-being of your elders may be a big focus over the next few years.  I lost my Mother when Saturn was in my 4th

With a lot of people, Saturn in their 4th is going to manifest as the house is too small, the house is too dark, you don’t like who you live with, etc. etc.  If you find yourself in any of those situations, then look at Saturn as bringing up weaknesses or limitations to help you decide what you really DO want.  It would take hard work to change your lifestyle but the results would be lasting and ultimately a BIG improvement.  DO remember that if you buy a house when Saturn is in your 4th, you’d best be prepared to live there a LONG time.  Since Sag rules the hips and thighs, I would think level  floors and shallow stairs with wide treads and good railings might become more important as time goes on.  It’s not a negative to buy a home with this transit, but you’d want to have a very thorough home inspection and also be on the lookout for any outdoor problems.  Things like drainage and erosion if the ground isn’t level.  Sag is one of the legal signs, so of course a clear title would be critical.  Personally, I wouldn’t buy a home when Saturn in Scorpio squares Jupiter in Leo this summer.  Also in late July, Venus goes  retrograde from 0 degrees Virgo back to 14 degrees Leo, going direct on 9-6- 15 and then Mercury is retro 9-17 to 10-9-15.  SO… there’s about 5 days in mid June that would be OK to close and then another small window from 9-7 through 9-16 -15.  Astrology at work  :))…

Looking at Saturn on more of the emotional/spiritual level, it’s very important to be aware of negative attitudes that you may have absorbed from family without consciously thinking about it.  It will take work to turn this around and form more positive responses.  Really, with Saturn, do we have any choice?  It’s embrace the challenge and master it, or be faced with penalties and restrictions.  If you have family members  who are trying to self-medicate with alcohol and/or drugs, then Neptune transiting through Pisces will square transiting Saturn from your 7th house, adding additional pressure and possibly indicating that your family member whom  you love and want to help, is in deep denial.  Self honesty and living according to your conscience is one way to set a good example.  But you’ll need to be aware that the more you progress, the more your  loved one may not.  Love is the answer, maybe with Saturn it means tough love…..

Another possibility with this transiting square, interpreted differently, would be that you and a partner are equally committed to a large project — volunteer, or humanitarian, or social services — something that brings help to people who are suffering.  One more possibility is that instead of people, the two of you are helping animals.

If you have LIBRA RISING, then Saturn in Sag is transiting through your 3rd house for the next few years.  A sextile between the two is certainly less challenging than the square. Sextiles mean opportunities with some elbow grease required to get results.  Let’s start by defining the 3rd house.  The 3rd is brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and cousins.  The 3rd also rules the local neighborhood, and short term travel.  The 3rd is early education, kindergarten through high school, as well as technical studies that concentrate the mind.

You may be going the extra mile to help out 3rd house relatives.  There can be a deeper communication.  This can happen both long-distance and locally, depending on where your various relatives live.

It’s a great transit to read and study and go to elderhostels or workshops.  I know one gal with this position and she lives in a large city and has found all kind of free computer classes.  That is just one example of technical studies.  Since Saturn is a symbol for the natural 10th house, the career house, you might want to check if your employer offers support for classes.  Some employers will credit you ½ the expense for work – related education.  Some will offer flex time or work from home time to make up for class time.

The way I personally like to view Saturn in the 3rd is self-examination and review of our habitual daily thought patterns — our “self talk”.  I thought  I was such a positive person until Saturn went through my 3rd in the 80’s and boy did I get a huge wake-up call!  True, it was Scorpio, but those thought patterns were deep and dark and very negative.  The only way to overcome these habits is to neutralize each fear thought as it comes to the surface by thinking its opposite.  By building this new habit, we’re not constantly RE-programming the negative.  I did pretty well until Saturn came back around again in 2012 and it was a major backslide.  I had to wonder if really, I had made any progress at all.  Fear of getting older, fear of being homeless, dreams of war, torture, and utter desolation.  The only difference is I snapped out of it quicker than last time, so I suppose that could be progress.  I worked with some very talented counsellors and friends who helped me.  I have to credit my friends for their extreme patience with me during one of the hardest ordeals in my life.  Would you want to talk to someone who didn’t have anything positive to say?  I was just a bundle of bad news, one thing after the other…it was relentless.  Saturn held my feet to the fire until the last possible moment and then the real estate situation that triggered the backslide ended.  I can look back now and see what I learned and why it was good for me.  I can even be glad it happened.  That’s the cool thing about Saturn — it’s a very definite energy and when it’s done you know it and can harvest the wisdom gained from the challenging transit.  I had a bunch of squares and one opposition.  Also, just to keep the record straight, I died in WW II in very adverse conditions.  It’s possible that Saturn was bringing up some old memories that needed release and healing.

Libra is sextile Saturn in Sag so it should be easier for you.  These two signs rule law and justice.  I would suggest that you make EVERY effort to keep your life in harmony with the law, on every level, but especially in business.  Neptune transits square Saturn at the end of 2015 from your 6th — that’s who you hire and who hires you.  Know your state regulations and licensing procedures.  Sign contracts with people if necessary but consider have a lawyer review them first.  You can also join legal protection organizations for a small fee each month.  There’s “legal zoom” and “legal shield” — maybe others but those are two that I know of…   In the old days, a handshake sufficed.  Life is a bit more complicated now…

Since the 3rd house is local travel and Saturn would imply business-related travel, maybe this is the year you should begin keeping a mileage log.  This mostly applies if you have your own business, but some organizations reimburse mileage, too.  I know people who drive seniors to medical appointments and are reimbursed via stipend — they make a little extra money and do a good deed.  Another good use of a mileage log :))…

People with Libra rising are very partnership-oriented.  Saturn in Sag in your 3rd is offering you an opportunity to be very honest with your partner AND yourself, to communicate clearly.  If you don’t have an immediate answer, then take your time and address the conversation again later.

To sum up, LIBRA RISING, it’s a great year for education of all kinds…both learning and teaching.  Don’t they say the teacher learns as much, if not more, than the student?  Try looking at Saturn as asking you to take personal responsibility for your thoughts and words, both to others  and to yourself.

If you have SCORPIO RISING, then SATURN in SAG is transiting through your 2nd house of personal resources, money, talents, and core values.  If you read some astrology books, they will say oh, Saturn in the 2nd is terrible for money.  I just don’t agree with that at all.  It’s actually one of the best times to start turning a hobby into a career.  Sure Saturn is a slow and steady energy.  You can’t expect results overnight and it’s true you’ll need to dot every “I” and cross every “t”.  If you’ve paid your dues and perfected your skills, then look for a slow and steady increase in your business.  Since Saturn is in Sag, if the rest of your chart concurs, this is an appropriate time to get licensed, bonded, insured, funded — the nuts and bolts kind of stuff to get your new business up and going.  For advertising, you’d want favorable Mercury and Jupiter transits to your chart.

Another  way to look at Saturn in your 2nd is to train yourself to manage your money and resources.  Reading Suze Orman is educational, and there are all kinds of websites that can teach you how to budget and plan for your future.  This would be a great transit to start a 529 plan — future college tuition for young children.  If you remember that Sag by nature is a warm, generous, and sometimes impulsive sign, then Saturn here is not entirely comfortable.  I think Saturn here might be suggesting to hold back from impulsive buying — I think a disciplined approach to spending will help you avoid running short when something happens and you need to gather funds.  This could be a challenge but the reward is peace of mind that you have savings for emergencies.

Saturn transiting your 2nd also means you can invest in yourself — your talents and skills will benefit from additional education.  I bought books when Saturn was in my 2nd and I never regretted it.  I bought some of the classic astrology books and a complete set of ephemeris from 1900 forward.  I continued this process as Saturn moved into my 3rd.

Core values — the principles and ethics and preferences you most believe in — Saturn in your 2nd may be suggesting it’s time for a review.  Are you living what you most believe?  Sagittarius is the sign that rules religion and philosophy.  Especially with Neptune squaring Saturn from your 5th — your children may ask you some tough questions, or even behave in a way that causes  you to question your own upbringing.  What role did religion play in your childhood?  Do you question authority or accept it, thinking that others  know more than you do?  I am somewhat rebellious, being Aquarian.  I read The Bible straight through, more than once,  and made up my own mind about what it meant.  Then I read books from other religions and looked for the similarities rather than the differences.  Personally, in my line of work, I find it appropriate to be versatile, so I can speak the language that my client is most comfortable with.  Now they have college classes that do the same — comparative religious philosophy.  Some of you with this transit are going to make a very big change in this area.  If you are a sincere seeker, you will be led in the right direction.  There’s an old Theosophical  saying — “ Seek beauty, for therein lies Eternal Truth.”

It’s kind of odd but kids that grow up in the country often move to the city, and  vice versa.  I have seen this also with religion.  Preachers’ kids can rebel and run wild, while kids with little religious education as children, often seek that spiritual commitment as adults.

To sum up, people with Saturn in their 2nd need to take their money, their talents, and their plans for their future seriously this year.  Uranus trines from your 6th, and Jupiter right now,  but not for long, trines from Leo and your 10th.  These Fire trines offer you a most wonderful opportunity to achieve career and financial goals.  Even if things seem unstable, things could work out in a fabulous way you never expected.  Stay grounded, work hard, and keep your eye on your long-term future…GOOD LUCK !!!

Well, dear Readers, that’s it for now.  The next post will be Jupiter moving into Virgo beginning 8-11-15.  My garden awaits…may you all have a joyous and abundant harvest…Blessings,   Jenae
