Saturn in Libra — Saturn through the Houses — Part 2

Back again to all you friends, readers, and closet astrologers.  Let’s continue now with Saturn in the 7th

Ah…the natural Libra House, and Saturn is currently wrapping up its transit through Libra.  Those of you who have Aries rising are taking Saturn in your 7th.  I’ve seen people get married and/or divorced when EITHER Saturn or Jupiter are transiting  the 7th.  Saturn here can manifest as loneliness — lack of a partner, problems in partnerships that have festered for a long time and really need to be addressed, or as a long-lasting commitment to a partnership.  The 7th is the love, not just  the piece of paper.  If you live with a significant other, that’s 7th house, too.  Light-hearted dating is 5th house.  Business partnerships are also ruled by the 7th (legal contracts) but there’s usually some 8th house influences, too.

So, dear readers, what have you learned from the last couple years?  I had one client that did a major review of all her past partnerships, saw the weakness in her current marriage as part of a life pattern, and vowed to herself to make MAJOR changes.  Another client with Saturn currently in her 7th has experienced so many business problems with various contracts and negotiations that she has no time or energy to even think about meeting someone;  however,  the  last few years have given her a clearer picture of the kind of partner that would suit her best.  Many have gotten divorced and some have used Saturn to strengthen their marriages.  Using Saturn in the 7th in a positive way helps us all decide and define what qualities and values are important to us in a partnership.

Saturn in the 8th —the natural Scorpio house

Saturn in the 8th can be a warning not to over-extend financially.  Best to run a tight ship.  There can be challenges with loans, insurance, inheritance, taxes, etc.  I warned one client about this as Saturn was conjoining her natal Mars in the 8th,  suggesting that  she be a more active participant in the family finances.  Good thing, too, since she discovered her partner was careless and let their homeowner’s insurance lapse.  I’ve also seen a lot of benefits come to people with transiting Saturn in the 8th, usually rewards for lots of work done previously.  Generally speaking, it’s a good transit for a young person to make a long-term investment, for an older person it’s usually planning for retirement.  Understanding  death and sexuality on a deeper level is another possibility.  The 8th rules all the major transitions in life, all the blood and guts, deeply emotional stuff.

Saturn in the 9th — the natural Sag house

Want to go to school?  What a great transit to commit to broadening your mind.  Travel?  Maybe… usually travel is better when different planets are in your 9th, but it depends on each individual’s chart.  Saturn here, well aspected, would be fabulous for business-related travel.  Same thing with legal issues.  Saturn can bring up weaknesses and challenges — not the greatest transit to begin legal action, but there are always exceptions.  Religion and philosophy are 9th house — I’ve seen clients question their upbringing, leave the church of their youth and define their religious beliefs.   One client, a Catholic abused in her youth, received a large settlement as part of a class action when Saturn was transiting her 9th.

Saturn in the 10th — the natural Capricorn house

This one is interesting because Saturn would be transiting its natural place.  IF there are challenging aspects to this position, the person will have issues with authority, bosses, government, etc.  Certainly not the best transit to ask for a zoning variance or submit plans.  But if Saturn here is well-aspected  the person can achieve long-term career goals, start BIG projects, receive honors and awards because they did the work previously, they earned it.  It is very important to guard your reputation, in business and in the community, when Saturn is moving through your 10th.  Using the Saturn qualities of hard work, follow-through, determination and discipline will help manifest the positive in career, reputation and public life. The 10th is also our definition of success, not society’s definition,  it’s more personal.

Saturn in the 11th  — the natural Aquarian house

This house is friends, groups,  teamwork, and plans for the future.  I’ve seen Saturn transiting through  the 11th work out in 4 different ways.   One, they are lonely and wish they had friends. Or they are working so hard there’s no time for friends.  Two, their dearest friends are older and they learn a lot from them.  Three, the person is either appointed or elected to serve a group.  This sign rules all labor and fraternal organizations, and co-ops.   So maybe you’re  asked to be on the hospital board, or be a room mother, or a den mother, or you join some kind of group and it ends up being a little bigger commitment than you had imagined.  Like organizing the company picnic.  The point here is it leads you to new people and ideas in your life. Four, sometimes Saturn in the 11th will symbolize a serious difficulty with a friend, or a major disagreement, or a friend could be going through a very serious ordeal and you are doing your best to offer love and support.

Saturn in the 12th — the natural Pisces house

The 12th is the hardest house to interpret.  The Pisces energy of this house, no matter what time you were  born and whatever sign is on the cusp of the 12th, symbolizes our spiritual relationship with ourselves, matters of conscience, and is often very subtle.  Saturn moving through the 12th — the traditional interpretation is the person has to face their worst fears, the most negative and defeatist parts of their personality, and they will get very little sympathy from others at this time, because they have to find their inner strength and forge their connection with the Divine.  The transit can symbolize a lot of time spent alone, introspection, meditation, etc.  I think I’ll do a whole blog or two  just on this house later on now that Neptune is transiting Pisces — its own sign — first time in 149 years.  Very  special, yes?  For now just ask yourself, as a  point of  meditation, why do we help others?  Is your charity public or secret?  Do you pray in your closet?  Pisces, the inner motivation…

Dear readers, I want to leave you with a little lighter note…I have a client who has natal Saturn in the 12th and she is an artist who does her best work alone in her studio.  She sold pictures to the government, too, (Saturn as government/authority) for wildlife stamps.  The 11th house energy is love for humanity, but the 12th house embraces all of life on earth  with  compassionate love — the sea, the animal kingdom, all of nature…

Comments are welcome, more soon… next time we’ll  start playing with Saturn in Libra and the different house cusps based on your time of birth.  See?  We’re taking things one step at a time …  Blessings , Jenae

ASTROLOGY — Saturn through the Houses —Part 1

Saturn in Libra

Saturn transits put pressure on us to shore up any weak points to build a firm foundation for a lasting success.  Saturn takes about 29 ½ years to go around the wheel of the chart, through all the 12 houses, and it takes about 2 ½ years to go through a sign and/or a house.

Saturn entered Libra October 30, 2009 and will leave Libra and enter Scorpio on October 6, 2012, so this particular Saturn transit is a little longer than most.  Many Libra clients have found their love life has been severely tested — Libra is the sign of marriage and close partnerships. Some Libras have gotten divorced, others went into counseling and reaffirmed their commitment to their marriage, some have made peace with relationships that haunted them from years past.  And some have found a new love that is more solid and stable than any of their previous experiences.

Libra is also a sign that symbolizes good manners and diplomacy, so all of us have hopefully learned to be better negotiators during the last few years.

Most of my clients check in with me when Saturn is either in their Sun Sign, or square or opposing. Libra is a cardinal sign, so the other cardinal signs are Aries, Cancer, and Capricorn.  Depending on the house positions, Saturn will reveal where the test is as well as how to achieve the rewards.  Every person has Libra somewhere in their natal chart.  We all have ALL the signs somewhere in the chart.

Saturn in the 1st — issues of confidence and taking initiative, sometimes the health and general vitality are a little lower with this transit, so it’s very important to take responsibility to insure your own good health.  Some people learn public speaking skills during this transit as a way to build confidence.  The 1st house is how we present ourselves to the outside world.  A great transit to smooth any rough edges of our personality.

Saturn in the 2nd — issues about personal finances and developing new talents and skills. To me, this is where is gets interesting.  Most traditional astrology books will tell you that Saturn in the 2nd is terrible for money, but my observation is there’s no better time to start your own business, even if it’s just a little moonlighting on the side.  In this scenario, what you’d be doing is laying in the foundation for a future transition to self-employment.  It’s a great transit to start developing talents and hobbies that have been dormant for a long time.

Saturn in the 3rd — communication issues, as well as the need to pick up technical skills. Going to college for liberal arts is Sag/9th house, taking technical classes and/or workshops to develop specific skills is 3rdhouse.  Computer skills are especially appropriate as the natural wheel 3rd house is Gemini.  Some people will use this Saturn transit to build closer rapport with neighbors or build consensus in their community.  I had several clients that had boundary issues with their neighbors when Saturn was transiting their 3rd.

Saturn in the 4th — this is a toughie…usually there is responsibility for older relatives, or the person wants to change their living situation.  The house is too small, the house is too dark, they don’t like their roommates, etc. etc.  It IS a great time to set up a home office.  Reviewing your legacy and family history is also appropriate, harvesting the treasures  you may have overlooked.  If you buy a house during this transit, better be prepared to stay there a LONG time. Remember, Saturn is longevity.  I lost my mother  when Saturn was in my 4th

Saturn in the 5th — time to focus and concentrate on your creativity, art, music, etc.  Too much work will stress a person out so this is the time to figure out how to have some fun.  Better yet, define fun — what is fun for you?  You may find that some things you’ve been passively going along with aren’t really what you prefer to be doing with your leisure time.  Children are 5thhouse — Saturn here can manifest as dealing with the educational goals or challenges of your children.  There can be a problem with a teacher or maybe there’s just a lot of paperwork and dealing with the bureaucracy, college apps, etc.  The 5th house is also romance, so this transit may be a question of agreeing on what sounds fun to do on a date.  Work commitments and schedules can interfere with dates.

Saturn in the 6th — issues involving employment and co-workers, could be someone you hire or vice-versa.  Saturn in the 6th usually brings increased responsibility at work, hopefully the rewards are commeasurate. Health issues can come up — this is the natural Virgo house of health, work, and service to others.  VERY important to use Saturn positively and commit yourself to a better health routine.  Work may feel confining and restrictive but it is a challenge to face and work through, especially any personality conflicts.  IF you want to change someone else, change yourself.  Use criticism CONSTRUCTIVELY.  I did some of the best work in my life when Saturn was I my 6th, no lack of employment, if anything there was almost more than I could handle.  I had to be very structured and disciplined to meet all deadlines.  A great transit to get more organized.    There’s a reason Feng Shui says get rid of clutter — for better health… :))

Thanks for reading…comments welcomed, Part 2 soon, Blessings, Jenae

ASTROLOGY — THE IMPORTANCE OF SATURN — All true predictive work is based on a thorough understanding of the natal chart.  IF a client has an afflicted Jupiter in their natal, a Jupiter transit may not bring them the usual expansionary benefits.  Looking at the flip side, since Jupiter expands and Saturn contracts, most of my clients show  up when transiting Saturn is either in their Sun sign, or in square or opposition to their Sun.  Saturn can symbolize serious ordeals that don’t resolve quickly.  In this situation it is very important to study Saturn in the natal chart, and not only its sign.  Saturn’s house placement and all the aspects in the natal from Saturn to other planets need to be considered BEFORE making a judgement about the current Saturn transit. Aspects are the angles between the planets in the natal.  Transits are the angles to the natal formed by the planets moving through the heavens at this time, or any time frame you want to investigate.  Any aspect can express in both a positive or a negative way, and all planets can symbolize experiences on the physical, mental, or emotional/spiritual level.  The same with transits.  Is your head spinning?  Not to worry, we’ll just take things a step at a time.  Any time and effort you invest in understanding your own chart will pay off big time, and will also help you get a lot more out of any reading with an astrologer.  Astrology is a psychological language.  The first step is learning the order of the signs in the Zodiac and the planets that rule them.  Saturn interests me because if a person uses the energy properly, even an ordeal can bring lasting rewards.  If the Saturn aspects in the natal include some trines and sextiles, it will be a little easier to extract the positive side of Saturn transiting around the wheel of your chart.

I’m going to use Bruno Mars as an example to illustrate the importance of Saturn. His Saturn is sextile his Venus and semi-sextile (30*) both his Mercury and his Part of Fortune.  No harsh Saturn aspects  in the natal. A little history on him first…I read his bio and I also came across his birth time. He is a Libra.   He grew up singing and playing multiple instruments, and he went to LA right after high school.  Hard times, no money, just the dream to keep him going.  And then along came the Saturn in Libra transit !!  He met his business partner Phil Lawrence when Saturn was on his Sun.  Saturn is a symbol for longevity, so we know these two will be enjoying their work together for a long time.  Hard times continued and finally they were forced to sell their songs, “their babies”, just to keep going.  Note that Saturn has been going back and forth over Bruno’s Mercury in the 8th the last few years.  The pressure of Saturn, and being forced to do something out of desperation, turned out to be the very key to his wonderful success.  Truly, this is a lesson for us all…

Now some people would take a Saturn conjunct Mercury transit and have communication difficulties. Some people will manifest it as education.  What did he do?  He used the Saturn qualities of hard work, long hours, discipline and concentration and composed non-stop, learning how to arrange and produce music for other people (8th house) as well as for himself.  Usually, Saturn transits are more difficult for younger people since Saturn respresents maturity and the ability to delay instant gratification for long-term rewards.  Yet this kid used Saturn on Mercury as a crash course in all the technical aspects of his art, and he also worked with older artists, learning from each one.  Pretty amazing and he definitely earned his success.  Saturn makes us dot every “i” and cross every “t”.

Planets go forward and backward, retrograde, from the earth’s view.  Saturn went forward on 6-25-2012 and will again conjoin his Mercury in September.  Probably the wrap-up of his sophomore album.  I did a little research and he said he is struggling with it.  Not surprising, since he also has Neptune on his Ascendant right now.  Any good astrologer would suggest that he use Neptune as inspiration instead of confusion and/or self-doubt.  Dreams, meditation, asking the elders, including those who have already departed,  for advice, keeping paper and pen or a digital recorder on his nightstand — he would awaken with melodies and lyrics from tapping into the Collective Unconscious, the invisible grapevine that links us all…for him the key to this next phase is going deep, deeper than surface.

Naturally, I think everyone should have an astrologer they can call on from time to time.  A good reading should confirm your own deepest instincts about yourself and your life.  A good astrologer will be able to give you the current “weather report” — the transits — to help ease your way and maximize your potential.  My current advice to Bruno Mars?  Don’t release that next album when Mercury is retrograde — November 6th to 26th — work around those dates.  Same thing for all you readers — avoid initiating major projects, signing contracts, important meetings and allow extra time for travel during those dates.  Comments are welcome, more soon, Jenae
